About SJM Builders

SJM Builders (SJM) was founded in 2001 by qualified carpenter Sam Macdonald.

In the past 20 years, SJM has emerged as one of South Australia’s leading regional builders, working on more than 300 new home, renovation and commercial projects in the Mid North of the state.

SJM employed its first apprentice in the company’s first year of business. We are passionate about employing and developing local young people; reflected by kick starting the careers of over 25 young tradespeople. We currently employ more than 20 staff across a spectrum of business and trade roles ranging from administration, finance, project management, team leadership, to carpentry, machine operation, masonry, trades assistance and plaster board flushing. By partnering with over 30 qualified trade contractors, we ensure all project needs are seamlessly met.

At SJM, meeting a project deadline is all about planning. At the beginning of a project, our experienced project manager works with you to put your building specifications on paper. This involves looking at the bigger picture, as well as outlining the finer details, such as paint colours, fittings and fixtures – no stone is left unturned.

SJM draws on it’s expertise and personal experience to guide your choices and to ensure the finished product meets your needs. We can also collaborate with your architect or building designer during the planning phase and throughout the build. When the specifications of a project are defined from the start, it allows for the most cost-effective and time-efficient outcome.

We are able to contain project pricing within your budget, with our business scope and size delivering access to lower-priced products and materials.

Our Quality Assurance

A 9-time award-winning builder, SJM Builders is recognised for its commitment to quality assurance (QA). Each project is led by a dedicated project manager, as well as at least two qualified tradespeople, to oversee and ensure the best results.

SJM responds immediately and without debate to any client concerns. It also offers a post-project QA system that allows clients to flag any defects over a three-month period, which are then quickly rectified.

All SJM building work is covered by a seven-year Builder’s Warranty, with repairs completed at no extra cost during this time period.

Our managing director Sam Macdonald believes that as a younger-generation builder, it is SJM’s responsibility to promote sustainable design. When it comes to insulation and building orientation, SJM never cuts corners and will work within your budget to ensure the most sustainable solution.
